John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is a member of the United States Senate, where he has represented Arizona since 1987. He was previously a member of the United States House of Representatives, where he represented Arizona's 1st district from 1983 to 1987.
McCain is a member of the Republican Party. He was the Republican nominee for President of the United States in 2008, but he lost the election to then-Senator Barack Obama. McCain currently serves as the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Senator McCain is a co-sponsor of the PROTECT IP Act.
